Remembering ‘Border’ – The Greatest War Movie Produced By Bollywood

Border, without a doubt, is the greatest war movie that Bollywood has produced.

It brilliantly depicts the series of action that happened at the Battle of Longewala.

Battle of Longewala was fought in Rajasthan (Western Theatre) during the Indo-Pakistani War of 1971 and Bangladesh Liberation War. 150 soldiers of the Punjab regiment of the Indian Army headed by Major Kuldip Singh Chandpuri (played by Sunny Deol) successfully defended their post all night against a whole tank regiment of the Pakistani Army, until assistance came from the Indian Air Force the next morning.

The movie ends with a scene that depicts most soldiers dead and the trauma it caused to their family members.

The lyrics of song “Mere Dushman Mere Bhai” has a line that goes like this: “Hum Apne Apne Kheton Mein Gehoon Ki Jagah Chaanval Ki Jagah, Ye Bandookein Kyoon Botein Hain, Jab Dono Hi Ki Galiyon Mein, Kuch Bhooke Bachche Rotein Hain”, which means “Why do we grow guns in our farms instead of wheat and rice, when children in our countries cry due to hunger.”

The songs of this movie are EPIC.

Apart from the song mentioned above, Sandese Aate Hai, a 10 minute and 19 second song – this song gives goosebumps everytime you hear it.

Javed Akhtar won the Filmfare Award and the Screen Award for this song.

The dialogues of this movie are beyond epicness:

“Hum hi hum hain to kya hum hain, tum hi tum ho to kya tum ho”

“Guru maharaj ne kaha hai ek khalsa sawa lakh ke barabar hota hai, aaj unki baat sach kar dikhane ka waqt aa gaya hai”

“Hum toh kisi doosre ki dharti par nazar bhi nahi dalte, lekin itne nalayak bachche bhi nahi hai  ki koi hamari dharti maa par nazar daale aur hum chup chap dekhte rahe”

“Zindagi aur maut Waheguru ke haath mein hai, aur mera Waheguru dushman ke saath nahin mere saath hai”

“Pehli goli woh chalayega aur aakhri goli hum”

In 2013, it was announced that JP Dutta would make Border 2 and it would star Sangram Singh and Nafisa Ali’s son Ajit Sodhi.
